Location:
Lowe's Cottages are centrally located on the East coast of the Island, above the towns of Kapaa and Wailua. The location is approximately midway between the north and south extremities of Kauai. Travel time north to Hanalei or south to Waimea is nearly equal, about an hour. Lihue, the county seat of Kauai, just beyond the airport, is 7 miles to the south. The airport is about a 15 minute drive from the cottages.
Kapaa and Wailua have good shopping areas with many different types of restaurants and fast food establishments, with supermarkets, drug stores and many other shops. The nearby Wailua river, is very popular for kayaking and waterskiing. Boat tours to the Fern Grotto also originate from this area.

Clean, open ocean beaches are located at the mouth of the river, and just meters further down, is Lydgate Park, where there is one of the best enclosed ocean swimming/snorkeling areas on the island, along with many picnic sites.

A number of ancient Hawaiian Heiaus (sacred places) are located from Lydgate Park up to Opaekaa Falls. The Falls are just down the road from the cottages. Finally, within walking distance from the cottages, are the excellent hiking trails on Nou Nou Mountain, commonly known as "the sleeping giant".
